Guacamole ~ The Blonde B

16 September 2014

Everyone needs a good party trick.

Some might touch their nose with their tongues, show off an impressive acrobatic trick or tell a funny joke.

Mine is Guacamole.

It makes an appearance at almost every dinner party we ever have at home. I whip it up about ten minutes before everyone arrives and is always met with uuhhs and aaahs of admiration.

Because nothing beats fresh Guacamole. NOTHING.

I'm a big fan of the 'making it at home' foods rather than 'store bought' ready meals.

Not only are meal times more exciting, but when you make it yourself it tastes inifinitely better!

Guacamole is surprisingly easy to make and tastes so much better than any Guacamole you will ever find in the supermarket.

Okay so to make a small batch of the green stuff you will need:

2 ripe Avocados (the riper the better!)

1 Tomato

1 Lemon

Fresh Cilantro (Coriander)

Fresh chilli or dried chilli flakes

A handful of sliced onion

First put the kettle on to heat up some water. Chop off the end of the tomato and, using a knife, star the bottom of it with a cross. Then place the tomato in a bowl and cover it with boiling water to soften the skin. The cross and the hot water will help you peel the skin off later.
Peel and chop up your avocados. Squeeze the lemon over it, add salt and mash it all up in a kitchen mortar.

Now peel the skin off your tomato. Roughly chop it up and add.

I really wish you could scratch and sniff the screen whilst I'm chopping this cilantro.

I can't convey how amazing it smells!

Finely chop up the cilantro and add to the mixture along with freshly cut chillies or dried chilli flakes and a bit more salt.

Use a spoon to mix it all together.

I like to add some roughly cut bits of onion to add texture, but this is optional!

Serve in the mortar with tortilla chips and watch your guests be impressed.

I know you want a close up don't you?

Go on then!

So the next time you go to reach for that tub of Guacamole in the supermarket STOP. Instead come here and try your hand at making it yourself!
